I am a biomedical engineer and I do love my job. It is not simply "selling" medical equipment to doctors or hospitals. My job is to provide solutions to modernize the health sector, accompany the doctor throughout the use of equipment, bringing new "hope" to patients.

When working with Philips ultrasounds at idsMED Vietnam, I had the opportunity to meet doctors, leading national and international experts in the field of cardiology, especially accompanying doctors in "Operation Healthy Heart" program.

According to Dr. Nguyen Ly Thinh Truong - Director of the Children’s Heart Center, National Children’s Hospital, discovering congenital heart disease in early time is very important because it will help them back to normal life. The success rate in surgeries or interventions is up to 97% - 98%. The main problem is "TIMELY". With poor people in rural and remote areas, the chance to access to health care is limited, leading to difficulties in congenital heart screening. That is the purpose of "Operation Healthy Heart".

Since joining the program for the first time, when "Operation Healthy Heart" came to Thai Binh province in 2017, idsMED Vietnam has so far participated in four more programs in Quang Ninh, Hai Duong, Nam Dinh and Nghe An (June 2019) with increasing number of medical examination visits... The Engineering and Application team, including me, also accompanies these 5 programs to ensure the devices that idsMED supports such as the Affiniti 70 and Lumify (Philips) or CSM operate stably.

Accompanying it are many difficult situations that I have witnessed firsthand. In the hot and sunny weather which was usually 37, 38 Celsius degrees, there were families from the remote mountainous areas of Tuong Duong, Quy Hop, who had to catch the bus from 1am down to Vinh City waiting outside the hospital to register for an early examination.

Also the case of a 9-year-old boy is affected by the attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and has a sizable ventricular septal defect which is indicated for surgery. The anxious gaze of an austere, skinny father, seeking to control his children’s behavior and listening to the doctor at the same time is really obsessed.

Another baby in Ky Son, despite being only 13 years old, has an old face as miserable as a middle-aged woman. In addition to congenital heart disease, she also suffers from endocrine diseases. When the doctor advised taking her to Hanoi for a thorough examination, her mother only cried because she was too poor to afford. On the occasion of the program, she had to take a day off from work to get there and let her child meet the doctor.

Every time I accompany the program, I appreciate and admire the hearts of the doctors who participated in "Operation Healthy Heart". They do not worry about difficulties, do not care about fame. The only thing that matters is the health of children. After the trips, I am also aware that, if I do my job well, ensure that the machines operate smoothly and effectively, it will also help doctors quickly detect deformities, step by step bring smiles back on children who unfortunately have congenital hearts.
