On 21 November 2025, idsMED Philippines successfully facilitated the first live demonstration of Single-Port Robotic Surgery in Southeast Asia, transmitted from Beijing to the Philippine Urological Association (PUA) Annual Conference.
The demonstration featured a Robotic Radical Prostatectomy performed by Professor Zhang Qian, President of Beijing Shijitan Hospital and a recognised key opinion leader in urological oncology. The procedure highlighted advances in precision surgery and minimally invasive techniques using a single-port robotic system.
A high-quality live transmission enabled conference delegates—comprising leading Filipino urologists, international surgeons, and regional key opinion leaders—to observe the procedure in real time. An interactive panel discussion followed, during which international experts engaged Professor Zhang on surgical approaches, single-port system manoeuvring, nerve preservation techniques, and post-operative recovery optimisation. The exchange provided valuable clinical insights and reinforced the educational value of the live demonstration.
The successful outcome reflected Professor Zhang’s leadership and the coordinated efforts of the surgical and technical teams. Earlier this year, Professor Zhang also led the team that completed China’s first single-port robot-assisted extraperitoneal radical prostatectomy, further underscoring the significance of showcasing this capability on an international platform.
This live demonstration highlighted the strength of multidisciplinary collaboration and the capabilities of the Urological Oncology Medical Centre, as well as the role of idsMED Philippines in advancing knowledge sharing and clinical education across borders.
The initiative aligns with Edge Medical’s commitment to supporting medical excellence, advancing surgical innovation, and promoting the exchange of expertise for improved patient outcomes. The successful execution of this event reflects the dedication and professionalism of the idsMED Philippines Robotics team and the Edge Medical team, as well as their continued contributions to the advancement of global medical standards.
