Waron Hospital Surabaya has become the first hospital in Indonesia to install the Edge MP1000 Multi-port Endoscopic Robotic Surgical System, marking a significant advancement in robotic-assisted surgery in the country. This milestone demonstrates a strong commitment to delivering precision-driven, minimally invasive, and patient-centred surgical care in Indonesia.

From Vision to Innovation

The journey began in mid-2025 when idsMED Indonesia introduced the Edge Medical robotic surgical platform to Waron Hospital, a newly established healthcare institution in Surabaya. Early discussions focused on aligning the technology with the hospital’s vision to enhance surgical capabilities and expand access to advanced treatment options.

The Edge MP1000 was publicly introduced during Waron Hospital’s Grand Opening on 19 December 2025. The system attracted considerable attention from distinguished guests, including representatives from the Ministry of Health, Vice Minister of Health Dr. dr. Benjamin Paulus Octavianus, Sp.P., FISR, Surabaya Mayor Dr. Eri Cahyadi, S.T., M.T., as well as members of the national and local media.

Surgeons were also introduced to the platform through a dry box trial session, allowing them to experience its precision, ergonomic design, and intuitive controls firsthand.

Public Commitment and First Robotic Surgery

On 23 January 2026, Waron Hospital held a press conference to formally announce its adoption of the Edge MP1000 robotic surgical platform, becoming the first hospital in Indonesia to install the system.

Following installation and clinical preparation, the hospital successfully performed its first robotic-assisted surgery using the Edge MP1000 on 1 February 2026. This achievement marked an important milestone for both the institution and Indonesia’s surgical community.

Strengthening Clinical Capability

Recognising that sustainable robotic surgery implementation requires more than advanced equipment, idsMED Indonesia facilitated structured training and certification at the Edge Medical Training Centre in Shenzhen, China.

Two batches of surgeons completed comprehensive hands-on training, with seven specialists achieving certification:

On 4 February 2026, idsMED Surabaya Branch Office Manager Mr. Jimmy Surjadarma symbolically handed over the Certificate of Authenticity for the Edge MP1000 system to the CEO of Waron Hospital, Dr. dr. Amang Surya Priyanto, Sp.OG, F-MAS.

The ceremony marked a formal affirmation of partnership, trust, and shared vision between Waron Hospital and idsMED Indonesia in advancing surgical innovation.

Leadership Behind the Milestone

The successful implementation of the Edge MP1000 at Waron Hospital was made possible through close cross-functional collaboration within idsMED Indonesia.

The initiative was led by Mr. Jimmy Surjadarma, Manager of the Surabaya Branch Office, and Ms Desryana Natalia, Robotic Business Leader, who oversaw project execution and stakeholder coordination.

Technical deployment and system installation were led by Mr. Aris Gunanto, BME Manager, who guided the Engineering Team to ensure precise and compliant installation. Operational readiness was supported by Ms. Nurrachmawati from the Logistics team, ensuring the timely and secure delivery of system components.

Clinical trial sessions and demonstrations were facilitated by Senior Clinical Specialists Mr. Era Yudha Setya and Ms. Windy Purba, who played a key role in supporting surgeons’ engagement and procedural preparation.

This milestone reflects the strength of integrated leadership, technical expertise, clinical capability, and operational coordination in delivering advanced surgical solutions.

Final Installation and National Milestone

The full system installation was completed on 20 February 2026, formally establishing Waron Hospital as the first hospital in Indonesia to install the Edge MP1000 Multi-port Endoscopic Robotic Surgical System.
