Malaysia’s leading heart institution the National Heart Institute (IJN) with the help of sports events promoter GoSportz, successfully organized the second edition of Ride 4 Your Heart cycling event on November 26th, 2017 at the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC).

This year, around 1,700 cyclists from 18 countries participated in the event, higher compared to that of last year which registered only 200 participants. Participants were given an option either to cycle via the challenging 115km scenic route filled with difficult climbs and undulating terrain, or a 28km casual ‘Fun Ride’ route.

While cycling generally promotes good health, according to Mohd Azhari who is also a senior consultant cardiac surgeon, it is also a very good cardio fitness exercise, as it raises the heart rate and allows it to function at an optimal level.

“Regular cycling halves the chance of getting cardiovascular diseases like stroke,” concluded Mohd Azhari who shared that between 2005 and 2014, the Statistics Department recorded that heart disease has remained the principal cause of death among Malaysians.

idsMED Malaysia was one of the sponsors in this event and participated in the fun ride with 4 representatives from idsMED who cycled through the route provided. The 4 representatives were Rahimi from Infection Control Department, Tracy Tan from Healthcare Education Department, Chong Jun Keong and Ahmad from Field Department.

Congratulations to all finishers who completed 115km and 28km ride respectively! You did it!
