Every 14 June, World Blood Donor Day (WBDD) is annually commemorated around the globe. The purpose of WBDD is to raise public awareness about the importance of safe blood and blood-related products for transfusion. This day is also created to thank all donors who have made critical contributions to national health systems by donating their blood to save others’ lives.

Blood service is a vital component of an efficient healthcare system. It does not only ensure patients’ access to safe blood and blood-related products, but also maintains adequate supplies to achieve universal and timely access to safe blood transfusion.

The World Blood Donor Day 2022 theme is “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives”. It aims to give a renewed focus on blood donation and blood service and promotes the values of voluntary unpaid blood donation in enhancing community solidarity and social cohesion.
