On Friday, 19 September 2025, idsMED Singapore hosted a purposeful Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) session at the idsMED Learning Academy, fostering both employee engagement and community support. Organised and facilitated by the HR team, the event offered colleagues an opportunity to contribute to a meaningful community initiative, while also having the chance to try their hand at a unique craft and spend quality time amongst colleagues outside of their daily work routines.
The afternoon kicked off with a Nasi Lemak lunch from Lee Wee Brothers, allowing participants to settle in with a hearty meal and reconnect before the workshop began. Once everyone was refreshed, the group moved on to the highlight of the session — a Moru Doll craft workshop.
The HR Team led the group of 18 participating employees through the twisting, looping, and shaping of the soft chenille-style “Moru” wires to form the doll’s shape. The doll gradually came to life as they affixed plastic eyes and noses with some glue, and added personalised touches with the clothing or accessories provided – making each doll distinct and individually expressive.
While the crafting process was enjoyable and sparked plenty of creativity, the activity carried a deeper purpose. The completed dolls will be put on sale within the office, where the funds collected and remaining unsold dolls will later be donated to Sengkang General Hospital (SKH) towards their SKH Better Health Fund under the Advanced Medical Research initiative – benefiting both patients and the wider community we serve.
The atmosphere was warm and collaborative, with colleagues sharing techniques and encouraging one another as they worked on their creations. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, where participants appreciated both the simplicity of the craft and the sense of impact it generated. Many also expressed enthusiasm for a follow-up session to create a puppy-shaped Moru doll instead, which would further expand their skills and contribute to a greater variety of designs for more effective fundraising.
This session not only allowed employees to learn a new craft while fostering team bonding and creative expression, but it also reinforced idsMED Singapore’s commitment to social responsibility. By committing their time and effort to a cause greater than themselves, employees were reminded that even small contributions, when combined, can create a meaningful impact on the wider community.
