Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a neurological condition that affects movement, mental health, sleep, pain and other health conditions. It progressively worsens over time, with common symptoms including tremors, painful muscle contractions and difficulty in speaking.

While there is currently no cure for PD, the symptoms can be reduced by therapies and medicines. The warriors of PD from the Parkinson Society Singapore (PSS) were enlightened on the morning of Friday, 28 February 2025, by Ms. Tan Shwu Jing, Senior Solutions Specialist from the Intermediate Long Term Care (ILTC) team on the rehabilitation process.

Ms. Shwu Jing was invited to share valuable insights on the SilverFit Exergaming System, which offers a positive approach to physiotherapy, rehabilitation and general exercise. During the Befrienders’ Session, the PSS warriors learned about the importance of exercise and the benefits of the exergaming system. They also had the opportunity to experience the innovative 3D technology of the system.

The 3D technology enabled the warriors to exercise their gross motor skills and develop muscle strength as they navigated through various games. These games promote independence and fitness maintenance and can be played individually or in groups, boosting the player’s motivation and social interactions.

“It was a pleasing sight to witness the warriors’ brightly lit faces and smiles as they enjoyed themselves during the session,” said Ms. Shwu Jing.

At the end of the sharing session, a Parkinson warrior presented Ms. Shwu Jing a handcrafted bouquet of flowers as a token of appreciation.

idsMED Singapore is grateful for this partnership with PSS and looks forward to future collaborations!
