idsMED Malaysia conducted the workshop titled “POCUS Essentials: Core Skills for Bedside Diagnosis” at the idsMED Learning Centre, Glenmarie, on 14 June 2026. The programme brought together clinicians for a comprehensive learning experience focused on developing practical Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) skills to support clinical assessment and decision-making.
Led by Dr Gan Kiat Kee, Adjunct Lecturer at the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Monash University, and Emergency Physician at Hospital Pasir Gudang, the workshop provided participants with valuable insights into the principles and clinical applications of POCUS.
The training covered key ultrasound assessment protocols, including the Hepatobiliary System (HBS), Kidney-Ureter-Bladder (KUB), and Extended Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma (E-FAST). Through a combination of lectures and hands-on practical sessions, participants gained experience in image acquisition, interpretation, and bedside ultrasonography techniques.
The workshop was designed to equip clinicians with essential POCUS competencies, enabling faster clinical decision-making, greater diagnostic confidence, and enhanced patient safety through timely bedside assessment. Through educational initiatives such as this, idsMED continues to support the advancement of clinical knowledge and contribute to improved patient care outcomes among healthcare professionals.
