Immunisation is one of the best ways to protect yourself and your community from serious diseases. Vaccines work by training your body’s natural defences to recognise and fight harmful viruses or bacteria—helping to stop illness before it starts.

But the benefits go beyond personal protection. When many people in a community are vaccinated, herd immunity develops. This helps stop diseases from spreading and protects those who can’t be vaccinated, like newborn babies or people with weakened immune systems.

Thanks to vaccines, deadly diseases such as smallpox and polio have been controlled—or even wiped out—in many parts of the world. If we stop vaccinating, these infections could return and put lives at risk again.

Getting vaccinated isn’t just about protecting yourself—it’s about caring for everyone around you. By keeping your immunisations up to date, you help build a healthier, safer future for your family, friends, and community.
