Pleural disease affects the pleural tissue which lines the chest cavity and covers the outside of the lungs. An extremely common disease, managing it effectively is often a challenge.

To create awareness on managing pleural disease effectively, SingHealth held its first Pleural Disease and Thoracic Ultrasound Workshop at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) campus from 21 to 23 February 2025. The event brought together physicians, trainees, residents and nurse specialists in Respiratory Medicine, General Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, Thoracic Surgery and Medical Oncology, who are dedicated to managing pleural disease.

This two-and-a-half-day workshop focused on the latest developments in pleural disease, with talks and hands-on experience on basic and advanced pleural procedures as well as thoracic ultrasonography. Professor Najib Rahman, a co-chair of the British Thoracic Society and a prominent figure in the European Respiratory Society, was invited to share guidelines on pleural disease.

To support the hands-on sessions, idsMED Singapore provided the ultrasound equipment for use during the procedures. Participants also had the opportunity to view various products that were displayed at the venue and address any queries with the Solutions Specialists.

While providing adequate support and connecting with the experts in the field, idsMED Singapore’s contribution in the hands-on session and product showcase allowed the team to better understand the specific needs in this care segment.
