March 2026 marks an important milestone for the advancement of robotic surgery in the Sumatra region with the official installation of the Edge® MP1000 Multi-port Endoscopic Robotic Surgical System at Murni Teguh Memorial Hospital, Medan.
This achievement represents the culmination of the Edge Medical Roadshow in Medan, which was first held in September 2025. During the event, surgeons and healthcare professionals in the city were introduced to the potential of advanced robotic-assisted surgery and its role in advancing the future of minimally invasive surgical care.
Following the roadshow, eight surgeons from Murni Teguh Memorial Hospital, Medan, attended specialised training at the Edge Medical Training Center in China in December 2025 and January 2026, sponsored by idsMED Indonesia. The program provided hands-on experience with the robotic system under expert supervision.
Dr. dr. Mutiara, MHA, MKT, CEO of Murni Teguh Memorial Hospital Medan, also joined the delegation, underscoring the hospital’s commitment to advancing surgical capabilities and improving patient care.
The surgeons who participated in the training were:
- dr. Yasin Leonardi, Sp.B-KBD
- dr. Henry Stanzah, Sp.U
- dr. Dino Adrian Halim, Sp.B, D.Mas, F.MIS, FINACS
- dr. Nora Minori, Sp.B
- dr. Johnson Hutapea, Sp.OG-KOnk
- dr. Syahroni, Sp.BTKV
- dr. Brema Suranta Prakarsa Utama Pasaribu, Sp.BTKV
- dr. Zulfian Hasibuan, Sp.U
The installation process began on the evening of Sunday, 1 March 2026, during the month of Ramadhan, and continued into the morning of Monday, 2 March 2026. The installation was successfully carried out by the idsMED Indonesia engineering team, led by Aris Gunanto, together with Okto Situmorang, Pandu Asdian, Evan Siregar, Abdul Hamid, Hablim Yusnaidi Ujung, and Dimas Sitepu, with technical support from Zhang Wenzhao, an engineer from Edge Medical.
Following the installation, a series of hands-on refresher sessions and technical training programs were conducted on 3–4 March 2026. The program included dry box hands-on training for the trained surgeons, as well as additional sessions for other doctors interested in robotic surgery.
During the same period, comprehensive training sessions were also conducted for the CSSD team, engineering team, and operating theatre nurses, who play a crucial role in supporting robotic-assisted surgical procedures. The sessions were led by Windy Purba, Senior Clinical Specialist at idsMED Indonesia, and attended by a total of 27 participants.
Shortly after the training sessions, the system was put into clinical use. Between 5 and 7 March 2026, four robotic-assisted surgeries were successfully performed at Murni Teguh Memorial Hospital, Medan. The procedures included laparoscopic cholecystectomy, appendectomy, and laparoscopic right kidney cystectomy.
With the support of dr. Chen Daqi (Michael) from Edge Medical, the surgeries were performed by trained surgeons from Murni Teguh Memorial Hospital Medan, including:
- dr. Nora Minori, Sp.B
- dr. Yasin Leonardi, Sp.B-KBD
- dr. Zulfian Hasibuan, Sp.U
For patients, robotic-assisted surgery offers potential advantages such as greater surgical precision, smaller incisions, reduced blood loss, and faster recovery, representing an important advancement in modern minimally invasive surgical care.
The installation and training series were officially concluded with a Grand Launching ceremony held on Tuesday morning, 10 March 2026. The event was attended by TV One, one of Indonesia’s major national television networks, along with several other regional and national media outlets.
During the ceremony, Jeo Bun An, Director of Sales of idsMED Indonesia, presented the Certificate of Authenticity to dr. Tuan Juniar Situmorang, M.Kes, Director of Murni Teguh Memorial Hospital Medan.
With this milestone, Murni Teguh Memorial Hospital Medan becomes the first hospital in western Indonesia, particularly in Sumatra, to install the Edge® MP1000 Multi-port Endoscopic Robotic Surgical System, bringing advanced robotic-assisted surgical technology closer to patients in the region.
This successful installation was made possible through strong collaboration across multiple teams within idsMED Indonesia. Jeo Bun An and Ida Santi, leaders of idsMED Medan, spearheaded the project together with Desryana Natalia, Robotic Business Lead. At the same time, Yansen worked on the ground as a Principal Product Sales Specialist.
The system’s deployment was also supported by strong coordination from the logistics team. The Logistics team from the Jakarta Head Office, led by Martin Darmawan and Dwi Hartono, worked closely with the Medan Branch team, particularly Tety Nurhayani and Anggun Mentari, to ensure the robotic system was delivered safely and installed on schedule.
From roadshow to real surgeries, this milestone reflects the shared commitment of surgeons, hospital leadership, and the idsMED team to advancing surgical care in Indonesia. With the Edge® MP1000 now operational at Murni Teguh Memorial Hospital Medan, patients in the Sumatra region are one step closer to accessing the next generation of minimally invasive surgery, reflecting idsMED’s vision to deliver healthcare solutions that improve quality of life.
