Maintaining good health and peak performance isn’t complicated—it often comes down to discipline and simple daily habits that help prevent disease. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we were reminded of one of the most essential of these habits: handwashing. This simple yet powerful act remains a cornerstone of good health and hygiene.

Our hands come into contact with countless surfaces every day—doorknobs, phones, money, and keyboards—all of which can carry germs and viruses. Without proper hand hygiene, these microorganisms can easily enter our bodies when we touch our face, eat, or handle food.

Regular handwashing with soap helps prevent illness by removing bacteria and viruses that cause infections such as colds, flu, and diarrhoea. It also helps stop the spread of germs, keeps food safe, and protects vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Most importantly, consistent handwashing builds lasting hygiene habits that promote long-term health and well-being.

Tips for Everyday Practice:

  1. Wash your hands before eating, after using the restroom, and after returning home.
  2. Scrub with soap and water for at least 20 seconds each time.
  3. Don’t forget to wash between fingers, under nails, and the backs of your hands.
  4. Keep a small bottle of hand sanitiser handy when soap and water aren’t available.
  5. Avoid touching your face before cleaning your hands.
By keeping our hands clean, we not only protect ourselves but also show care and respect for everyone around us.
